    in600days:

As of Monday April 23rd, 2012 I will have 600 days until my 30th birthday on Friday the 13th of 2013. Since it’s taken me nearly half an hour to write this beginning post I think it’s safe to say that I’m not great at getting things done. So, I’ve decided to set some goals for myself to accomplish…

To all the followers of this blog - come follow me as I put into motion everything that has inspired me on this one?

“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” Jack London

American Censorship Day 16 November 2011

An “Internet-wide” day of protest is planned as hearings begin in the US Congress into the proposed “Stop Online Piracy Act”.

    More information at /americancensorship.org:

On 11/16, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system.

This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same.

Join all of us on the 16th to stop this bill.

    Website Blocking

The government and corporations can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users

It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

    Chaos for the Internet

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn’t be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

  • By age 32, Fuller was bankrupt and jobless, living in public, low-income housing in Chicago, Illinois. In 1922, Fuller’s young daughter Alexandra died from complications from polio and spinal meningitis. Allegedly, he felt responsible and this caused him to drink frequently and to contemplate suicide for a while. He finally chose to embark on “an experiment, to find what a single individual [could] contribute to changing the world and benefiting all humanity.

  • to the guy who yelled at me today

I’m sorry that you didn’t seem to see that construction had blocked the right hand lane even though you were in the right hand lane in a giant lifted pickup truck.

I let the person in front of you go because they had their signal on and were far enough in front of me that I didn’t have to stop to let them out. I was going with the flow of traffic. I didn’t realize that the right lane was blocked as I could not see.

When I didn’t stop to let you out, you really didn’t need to yell thank you so angrily and loudly through your open window and into mine that it made me jump and scared me almost to the point of tears. Which then lead to unstoppable crying and nearly having a panic attack because it snapped the tiny string that had been holding all of my stress and fear together, the string that even meditating in the park on a beautiful morning could not strengthen.

I hope that you figure out that the things you do have an effect and even small, angry things like that can completely alter someone else’s day. I hope you figure that out before you seriously hurt someone in a way you don’t even realize.

  • “I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn’t quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn’t make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”
